SELF (Skills for Encouraging Life-Long Fulfillment) 30 is an integral part of Leander Independent School District’s special education transition service. This service is designed to meet the needs of students ages 18-21 and their families by supporting students as they achieve fulfilling futures. While SELF 30 has been an effective service consistently meetings its goals and objectives, one barrier had become apparent—these students needed additional opportunities to be around young people their own age. LISD believes that they could better serve the SELF 30 students by holding classes at a university where they could interact with their peers, while simultaneously gaining the skills they needed for a successful transition beyond high school.
“Our Self 30 students love being a part of the college experience and are getting the most out of the supportive learning environment Concordia has so generously provided. We are very pleased to see that more and more opportunities are presenting themselves to our students at every turn, reinforcing our students’ abilities to lead fulfilling lives.”
