West Austin Chamber of Commerce supports

Mayor’s $720 Million Mobility Bond

Austin, TX –

The West Austin Chamber of Commerce is strongly in support of the Austin Transportation bond on the ballot for November 8th. Austin is in desperate need of a significant roadway and mobility overhaul. This is known well by all who live and do business in Austin and especially by those in the West Austin and Four Points areas.

The bond will critically provide over $100 million for regional mobility and specifically $30 million for projects in Austin’s District 6 which includes RM620/FM2222, Anderson Mill and Parmer Lane improvements as well as projects in District 10 including improvements to Loop 360. The prioritization of investment in “regional mobility” corridors is required to achieve a connected Austin that includes both the major living and commercial centers. West Austin and other parts of the region absorb a large and growing portion of the population growth for the region and must be accessible to support the Austin’s overall growth initiatives as well as to support local businesses, institutions and living standards.

The improvements for RM620/FM2222 are of critical importance. With passing of the transportation bond, we would like to see Austin fund the majority of the estimated $25 million cost of the improvement from the bond with additional funds from TXDOT and Travis County to help ensure this project can be funded completely and quickly for construction by 2019.

The other projects in District 6 covered by the bond include safety and mobility improvements along Anderson Mill Rd and cooperative funding with Williamson County and TXDOT for improvements to Parmer Lane.

You can find the specific bill information at www.austintx.gov.

WACC includes the area along Highway 620 from Debba Drive, Hudson Bend and Mansfield Dam to Highway 620 / SH45, and from Mopac to the east and Westlake Drive and Lake Austin to the south.  For more information about upcoming events visit www.westaustinchamber.org or call (512) 551-0390.  Membership inquiries may also be sent directly to Linda@westaustinchamber.org.
